Why is Terri Schindler-Schiavo my Problem?
I use a wheelchair because of Cerebral Palsy, and a prosthetic arm to replace the wrist and hand I was born without. I grew up with friends who were as "vegetative" as Terri-- loving life, enjoying (sometimes instigating) childish pranks, and just being kids. When I fight for Terri and others whose lives are being considered worthless by the medical establishment and the courts, I am fighting for my own life, my own value in their eyes-- my freedom.

I want to tell you that I am impressed with what you wrote. I am touched. I can feel the truth that you speak. And I also stand in agreement with you. I think all of us that fight for Terri, fight for ourselves in some way. It's not just about Terri, or just about you or just about me, it's about humanity, compassion for your fellow man and the love of God. I feel happy and encouraged when I read things like what you wrote. Thank you and God bless you and the rest of the world.
Hi. I don't have a physical disability but I think this is my problem too - because once this sort of thing os allowed to happen where does it end? And because it shouldn't happen to even one person. Great post - I came here from Pro-life blogs.
All humans have a right to food and water. All humans should also have a right to life.
It makes me sick when able minded/able bodied people pass judgement on what is quality of life based solely on their own experience of life.

In all the controversy over Terri Schiavo, the termination of little Sun Hudson has attracted almost no attention. The bottom line of the termination of poor little Sun's life seems to have been the cost of keeping him alive. This child, born with a terminal condition, was put to death against the wishes of his mother under the terms of the Texas "Futile Care Law." This act, which authorizes health care institutions to terminate life support for patients who have no chance of getting better, even against the wishes of their family, even if they are conscious, was written with the assistance of National and Texas Right to Life and the Hemlock Society and signed by Governor George W. Bush!!!
It would be nice if the tremendous coalition of Christian activists and bloggers that has come together for Terri could turn their attention to this unconscionable act of state terror

Well I must say I don't know how to feel about the case. I think there are some important issues here and it seems like everyone wants to lump them all together. I see two key issues: should the government be involved in people's last wishes and what would Terri want. After those are answered there can be any number of religious or philosophic debates as to whether or not it is right to end life because of altered state. Having said this I understand how people in Cynthia's position feel this is their fight. Those with disabilities have been shit on for years and continue to be. The American culture has a big problem with diversity and the value of life. Even with all this I still think the key issues are what would Terri want and does the government have a place in this decision. Lastly could the person who posted the response from Terri could they leave the URL. I couldn't find it on the Drudge Report. I'm sure after I post this there will be many unhappy posts, but who knows maybe we will all gain greater understanding. Oh and could anyone explain to me about the video I have heard it is 4 years old.
